Following the adage that, “if you build it, they will come,” in 2011 we constructed a couple of double tie horse stalls in an under-used barn at the farm. Valerie, of 11 years, and Vonda, of 12, came in May to fill those stalls with life (thank you Willie Nelson).

Valerie arrived at the farm pregnant and on a warm morning about the time of the summer solstice, June arrived. We will eventually train June to work with her Mom and Aunt for heavier field work.

The team will be plowing the driveway, skidding logs, plowing the gardens, cultivating, seeding, hauling wagons, mowing hay, and raking hay while in harness. Otherwise the three will be producing compost materials, fertilizing the pasture, mowing the barn yard and romancing our never ending awe for the heartbeat of greater forces at work.
